Riverfront Play Park To Be Called ‘Cumberland Park'

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announced the name of the new riverfront play park on Thursday. It will be called Cumberland Park.

More than 200 suggestions were received from more than 170 people with Cumberland as the most frequently suggested name for the park.

It's being built on some six and a half acres between the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge and the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge.

There will be picnic areas, a river walk, landscaped gardens, a stage with an open law, walking areas, climbing walls, play equipment, and much more.

A bridge company building is also being built right now and a portion of that building will be used for park offices, concession stands and public restrooms.

Cumberland Park also includes a variety of sustainable features including harvesting stormwater from the park and adjacent parking lots and bridges to be used for irrigation on the park site.

It is expected to open later this year.
