NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country Music Stars are doing their part to fight a startling reality in Tennessee: The reality is that one in five kids will go to bed hungry at night.
Artists like Jimmy Wayne showed up at the Second Harvest Food Bank on Tuesday. They were stuffing food into backpacks as part of the "Feeding America Backpack Program".
The backpacks go to kids who come from families that cannot afford to put food on the table.
"If you don't have the backpack program, many children will go home, and go to bed hungry that evening, perhaps they will not get a meal that evening or over the weekend," said Jaynee Day with Second Harvest.
Second Harvest manages more than 40 similar programs around the state to meet the needs of hungry children.
