NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Mike Yastrzemski homered and drove in four runs and Vanderbilt beat Oregon State 11-1 Friday night in the opener of a best-of-three NCAA super regional series.
Yastrzemski, the grandson of former Boston Red Sox star Carl Yastrzemski, was 2 for 4 and his three-run home run in the fourth gave Vanderbilt (51-10) an eight-run lead. Jason Esposito added a two-run home run and drove in three runs.
The Commodores scored 10 of their runs with two outs.
Vandy ace Sonny Gray (12-3), allowed one run on four hits in 6 2-3 innings four days after he was drafted 18th overall by the Oakland Athletics.
Jake Rodriguez had three hits and drove in the only run for Oregon State (41-18).
Beavers starter Sam Gaviglio (12-3) gave up 10 earned runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
