NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt University's baseball team left Nashville on Thursday to head to Omaha for their first trip to the College World Series.
The players were excited as they boarded buses Thursday morning to take them to Nashville International Airport.
Sixth-seeded Vanderbilt is set to play their opening round game against third-seeded North Carolina Tarheels at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Commodores have outscored opponents in the NCAA tournament 46-6. Contributions come from throughout the lineup with six players hitting .316 or better in this postseason.
Vanderbilt is the SEC's only private university. The 2008 Music City Bowl trophy is revered as the football team's only bowl victory since 1955, and the only national championship by any Vandy team came from the women's bowling team in 2007.
