49-year-old Charles Rynard Donaldson
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said DNA evidence has led to the indictment of a convicted felon for sexually assaulting three women in May 2010.
49-year-old Charles Rynard Donaldson has been charged with one count of attempted aggravated rape, two counts of rape, one count of aggravated assault and two counts of burglary.
Police said the victims reported similar scenarios.
Two of were walking along Murfreesboro Pike on different days when they were picked up by a man in a work-type truck and taken to an abandoned house on Argyle Street where they were sexually assault. The third victim was attacked as she walked near the abandoned house and taken onto the property.
The vehicle used in the first two attacks was recovered on May 6, 2010 at Alloway Street and 8th Avenue South with blood throughout the vehicle.
Swabs of the blood were analyzed by the TBI Crime Lab, and a DNA match was made to Donaldson. His DNA had been entered into the database due to his criminal history, which includes a 2003 conviction for aggravated assault, for which he received a six-year sentence.
Police interviewed Donaldson and he told them they had the wrong DNA. Police then got a search warrant for photos of Donaldson's body, and found that he had a large stab wound scar on his back where one of the victims said she had stabbed him when she managed to get the knife away from her attacker.
Although the victims have prostitution histories, they told police that they did not make prostitution deals with the suspect.
Donaldson is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.
