NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Investigators are looking into a security breach with the Nashville Zoo's website. They believe someone stole credit card information used by zoo patrons to purchase items online.
Zoo administrators learned of the security breach on June 3.
"We immediately shut down all of our commerce to make sure that wouldn't continue and we've been working with authorities ever since to continue with the investigation," according to Jim Bartoo, the Zoo's marketing manager.
Investigators are not sure of when the website was breached, so the warning goes out to customers who used the website over the last two years.
"We wanted to be far reaching, as much as we could, and to let people know go back at least 24 months and take a look at your statements and see if they are any discrepancies. And if there are, contact your back immediately," Bartoo explained.
How many accounts were compromised is still an unknown at this point.
The zoo is currently reconstructing its website to have stronger security features in the future.
In the interim, if you would like to purchase a membership, or make a donation to the zoo, you can do that in-person at the park, or call on the phone.
