SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – Police are searching for man who is wanted in the fatal shooting of a woman in Springfield.

Police said 34-year-old Thomas Dowlen is considered armed and dangerous. He is wanted in the shooting death of 28-year-old Candice Owens.

"There was some sort of altercation immediately preceding the homicide, between the brother of the victim and the suspect.  Whether it was some type of retaliation against the sister for something the brother had done, we're still looking into that," said Springfield Police Detective Rickie Morris.

Police were called out to a home on 12th Avenue east around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and discovered Owens on the front porch with her mother crying over her. She had been shot several times and was unresponsive. EMS was called and declared her dead on the scene.

Police issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for a vehicle seen leaving the area and it was discovered in a front of a home on Lish Drive.

On Friday afternoon, Morris spent several hours scouring that vehicle for evidence.

"Guns, bullets, shellcasings, anything like that that may have been used in the crime," he said.

After just a few minutes of searching, he found drug paraphernalia and a gun, but doesn't believe it's the murder weapon in this case.

"It could possibly have been used in another crime - a homicide or robbery," he said.

Dowlen has a lengthy criminal history and investigators said sources have told them he doesn't want to go back to jail.

"I've dealt with him before and he's run off or hidden himself," said Morris.  "Hopefully he'll turn himself in."

Anyone with information on Dowlen's whereabouts are asked to contact Robertson County Central Dispatch by calling 615-384-4911, Crime Stoppers at 615-382-7799, or the Springfield Police Department at 615-384-8422.
