NASHVILLE, Tenn. - What was supposed to be a fun summer day at Nashville Shores for one Texas family turned out badly. After spending a few hours at the park, the family's locker and car were broken into and everything from IDs to a family Bible was gone.
When it comes to a hot summer day, there's nothing like a fun day at a water park.
"My sister-in-law called and said, 'what do you think about going there for the day?' I was like great we've never been, we heard it was fun. The kids love a water park. Let's do it," said Holly Baumgartner.
Baumgartner said it was the perfect time to try out Nashville Shores. Her sister-in-law, niece and nephew were visiting from Texas, but after three hours, Holly said they headed to the locker where their keys, wallets, cameras and other belongs were safely locked up.
"Unlocked them with the key and realized everything of value inside was gone," said Baumgartner.
She said after a few more minutes they realized the thief went to the car and stole things from there too.
Not only was Holly's sister-in-law's wedding ring gone, but something more valuable, a family Bible.
"She had letters from her father who has passed away, that were in the Bible. Just those things you can't, you just can't replace that stuff," expressed Baumgartner.
After having things that mean so much taken away, Baumgartner said the managers at the water park were not very helpful only referring to a sign that said the water park is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
"Losing those kinds of things paired with the fact they had to get on a plane this morning and she's traveling by herself with two minors back to Texas," said Baumgartner.
Getting home was not simple for Holly's sister-in-law. She had to call her husband back in Texas and have him fax her birth certificate and the birth certificates of their two children.
They needed those proofs of identification, as well as a police report, to board their flight back home to Austin Friday morning.
Holly said they realize the jewelry, phones and cameras will probably not be returned, but they are praying that someone will find and return the letters and Bible.
"I'm sure whoever did this does not care to have my sister's Bible, that's probably not important to them, but it's important to her," expressed Baumgartner.
News Channel 5 did speak to a spokesperson with Nashville Shores and he said that incidents like this don't happen often.
He also said the water park is working with Metro Police and if needed, they will make changes to security measures to protect belongs of their visitors.
