Highway 46 near Highway 100
CENTERVILLE, Tenn.- A fire chief was injured when his vehicle crashed on the way to a burning home Thursday. Volunteer fire crews in Hickman County called for help from nearby Williamson County and the city of Fairview after their fire truck crashed on the way to the large fire.
The fire broke out at a trailer near Highway 100 on Thursday afternoon. Initially officials were afraid that a woman was trapped inside; however, there were no injuries at the scene of the fire.
When Hickman County firefighters headed to the scene, traveling south on Highway 46 they got into an accident with another car near Highway 100. According to the accident report, the firefighters' lights and sirens were activated. Hickman County Fire Chief Phil Richards injured his shoulder, but he did not go to the hospital.
This made the work even harder for the firefighters who were fighting both the flames and the feelings of concern for their colleagues who they knew were in a wreck.
The woman driving the other car was taken to the hospital. Her injuries were unknown.
The Red Cross is helping the single father, his daughter, and son who lived in the home, by putting them up in a local hotel.
The father said he does not know what started the fire.
