NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Limousine and sedan drivers took a so-called "Freedom Ride" throughout the city Monday morning to protest new changes to Metro's limo and sedan ordinance.
The cars had flags and stickers that said "Tell Nashville: Let Me Charge You Less".
Under the ruling, drivers must now wait at least 15 minutes before they can pick up a customer.
Starting in January, they will be required to raise their minimum rates from $25 to $45, nearly doubling the prices of service.
Protesters said the changes are hurting the small-independent drivers and forcing some out of business completely.
"Taxi service in a nice limo and I built my business from there. I ended up with three cars, been doing it for 6 years and the ordinance just stopped it all," said
A group of drivers have filed a lawsuit claiming the ordinance is unconstitutional and unreasonable.
Metro Council members will take up the issue on Tuesday night.
