NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former prisoners and college students living together in an effort to teach both about living in society has been the mission the Dismas House for more than three decades.
Despite the constant shortage of volunteers, one amazing woman has kept the program going for the past 37 years.
The house has been open since 1974, giving former prisoners a way to integrate back into society by living in a family setting
Though much has happened in nearly four decades, some things have stayed the same in the Dismas House.
Grace Morales has served 432 meals, give or take, since Dismas House founder Father Jack Hicky asked for her help 36 years ago.
"He said you have 10 children, then you can cook, you are now a cook at Dismas House," said Morales.
At age 85, her spirit hasn't aged a bit.
"I'm very fortunate because I see those people in my age group. They're on walkers and canes and wheelchairs, so I'm here as long as I can come here," Morales added.
