NASHVILLE, Tenn. - There could be a break in the negotiation thanks to the Gang of Six, a bipartisan group of senators. The deal is getting thumbs up from Sen. Lamar Alexander.
The Gang of Six is pushing a plan that would cut the federal deficit by $4 trillion over the next 10 years.
That includes an immediate half a trillion in cuts that will be used as a down payment on the nation's debt.
Senator Lamar Alexander called it a "serious, bipartisan" effort. One thing the Gang of Six plan does not call for is a balanced budget agreement, which the House passed Tuesday. That plan is not likely to see the light of day in the Senate.
