GALLATIN, Tenn. – A family of three has been left without a home after flames ripped through a residence in Sumner County.
Homeowner Franklin Robb noticed a haze of smoke inside the home at Sunset Boulevard in Gallatin around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Robb said he walked around with a flashlight outside trying to find the source of the smoke.
When the smoke continued to get thicker and thicker, the family got out of the house and called emergency dispatch.
"I went in to check a couple of things out, cut the electricity off," said Robb. "Then I saw the cloud of smoke and said get out."
The three people inside were able to escape without any injury.
When firefighters entered the home, a sudden rush of oxygen caused the flames to flare up. The fire burned through the ceiling and at one point flames engulfed the entire building. The home was a complete loss.
A firefighter received minor injuries and was transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center. Officials did not have the specific details of the injury, but said he was expected to recover.
Robb told NewsChannel 5 he believe the fire started in an area near a utility room and a bedroom on the side of the residence
Investigators were called out to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
