Cold Case Conference In Rutherford County

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - There have been nearly 200,000 unsolved murders since 1980 in the United States. Cold case experts are meeting in Rutherford County this week to compare notes.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department is hosting the first annual "Cold Case Homicide Investigations Conference" in Murfreesboro.

Top investigators from across the country are attending to hear from experts like Dr. Bill Bass of the University of Tennessee's famed Body Farm and Jerry Findley, a renowned blood splatter and crime scene reconstruction expert.

The conference will also focus on the relationship between media and law enforcement when it comes to solving cold cases.  NewsChannel 5's Nick Beres will lead one discussion.

The conference runs through the end of the week at the Double Tree Hotel in Murfreesboro.
