Kids Thank Keith Urban For No Homework

MONTEREY, Tenn. - Her license plate says "Urban Girl", she has pictures of Keith Urban all over her classroom, and the mid-state teacher said her country music idol is the reason she is not assigning homework for the rest of the year.

Last weekend, Patty Sloan brought a sign with her to the Keith Urban concert in Nashville which promised not to assign any homework to her class if the country music star agreed to take a picture with her.

He obliged, and needless to say, Sloan's fourth grade class at Burks Middle School in Monterey couldn't be happier.

Patty Sloan said she has no skeptics, only supporters.  Both parents and bosses are totally okay with the no-homework deal.

"I'm the teacher, the homework is not the teacher.  I'm the teacher, they're learning from me not the homework," said Sloan.

Sloan said the odds of getting called on stage for a picture with her idol were one in 20,000.  She said she used the experience as a lesson in probability; that no matter the odds, always go after what you want.

"Anything is possible if you follow your dream," Sloan said.

Sloan said the no-homework promise does not apply to studying at home for tests.  She also said any student who misses class will be expected to make up the work at home.
