CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. – University of Tennessee Women's Basketball Coach Pat Summitt has been named honorary chairperson for the Nashville area's Habitat for Humanity's Cheatham division.
Pat Head Summitt grew up in the small town of Henrietta and attended Cheatham County Central High School.
She became the women's basketball coach at UT in 19-74 and is now the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history.
Coach Summitt released a statement saying: "In Cheatham County too many people are still living in poor housing conditions when there is an alternative through Habitat.A safe healthy place to live is critical to be able to play the game of life. My family still lives in Henrietta, and I am honored to help."
The Cheatham Division completed its first home this year and is looking for qualified low-income families and individuals living in Cheatham County.
For those who qualify, Cheatham Habitat offers a zero-percent interest rate on home mortgages.
The office of Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity's Cheatham Division is open on Tuesdays 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and located at 296 Frey Street, #5, in Ashland City. Representatives can be reached by phone Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 615-441-9967.
