NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Titan running back Chris Johnson stirred up controversy Wednesday with a tweet that targeted fans of the NFL team.

In a tweet posted on his ChrisJohnson28 page, Johnson took aim at, who he called, fake fans.

"Can these fake Titans fans STFU on my timeline, I don't have a regular job, so don't compare me to you, and I can care less if you think I am greedy," the tweet read.

The tweet was posted as Johnson and Titans management seem to be at a stand-still in contract negotiations.

"People have to realize when you put something on Twitter, it's as if you're saying it at a press conference. It's all the same," explained 104.5 The Zone host Chad Withrow.

The Twitter trouble was a hot topic on sports talk radio early Wednesday afternoon.

"We're just going to discuss it, see what Titans fans think of what he did today," host Willy Daunic told listeners.

One caller from Dickson made it clear; all the talk about Twitter did not make any difference to him.

"I don't really care what he says as long as he laces up those Nike's and runs a 4-2, I could care less what he says," the caller stated.

Not all fans were as forgiving for the message the Titan posted.

"Unfortunately he kind of blew it today by overreacting and letting the whole world see how much he over reacted," said Jeff Ingenloff.

Another fan said Johnson has every right to express his feelings.

"But you got to realize who's reading that, your fans, and keep them in mind," Lee Mockmore explained.

In later tweets, Johnson did try to explain that the tweets were not meant to upset his true fans, but were aimed at people who made racist comments towards him.

As of Wednesday night, Johnson had more than 445,000 Twitter followers.
