NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mayor Karl Dean officially named this week "Vince Gill Week" in Nashville in honor of the country singer.
Gill has been on the Nashville music scene since 1983, and is always honoring his adopted home town.
The country music entertainer and his wife, Amy Grant, have spent years giving back to Music City and surrounding communities.
Gill has done benefit work for flood relief, mental health, children's advocacy, Alzheimer's research, cancer research, junior golf and other causes.
"At the end of the day when anybody does something for somebody else, it's the most common thing to do, is to say thank you. And you know, this is what this feels like. People as heartfelt as they can possibly be saying thank you," said Gill.
To celebrate the declaration, fans draped guitars over the Musica Statues along Music Row.
He was also honored Thursday night at the Nashville Predators home opener at Bridgestone Arena. He and his daughter Jenny performed during the first intermission of the game. The Predators lost to the Phoenix Coyotes 5 to 2.
Gill has done benefit work for flood relief, mental health, children's advocacy, Alzheimer's research, cancer research, junior golf and other causes.
He and Grant regularly attend Predators' games.
Gill's hits include "I Still Believe in You" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain."
