Police Report Released MTSU Coordinator Assault Case

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- The girlfriend of Middle Tennessee offensive coordinator Willie Simmons said in a police report that he put his hands around her neck and briefly choked before letting her leave at an apartment.

Murfreesboro police released a copy of the domestic violence report Monday that was filed by Kayla Hockett.

Simmons resigned Friday after being arrested for aggravated assault Wednesday.

The woman told police she had argued with Simmons over a text late Oct. 9. She was preparing to leave when she says Simmons grabbed her before putting his hands around her neck and squeezing.

She says she left after he let go and had a friend take a photo showing a red mark on either side of her neck.

Simmons was in his first season as offensive coordinator.
