NASHVILLE, Tenn. - People all over the world recognize songs like "We Are the Champions" sung by the late Freddie Mercury of the legendary rock group Queen. And one local man has a voice that many say is the closest thing to Freddie Mercury since Freddie Mercury.

Marc Martel is a local Tennessean made Internet sensation for thanks to an audition video for a Queen Tribute band.

Martel is a member of local Christian band 'Downhere', and even his band members agree he sounds just like the late rocker.

"In the last couple of years, when we started doing our band intros on stage, Jason would say  people said he sounds like Freddie Mercury ... ' said Martel.

And when Martel heard that Queen drummer was recruiting musicians to form a touring Queen tribute band, he knew he had to try out. So Marc gathered the courage, clicked on his computer and cranked out a Queen classic, " Somebody to Love".

"And so I uploaded it ... and it immediately went viral ... and I thought what does this mean..?" said Martel

It meant 4 million YouTube hits in days, a glowing article in the Wall Street Journal and an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

"It was pretty amazing to be on that show -- and Ellen was so warm  ... saying I can't believe you're on my show  ... and I'm thinking I can't believe I'M on YOUR show!" he said.

Martel said he knows the competition will be tough, but many feel he's the frontrunner and the best man fit to be 'Queen".

The Queen tribute tour is slated to kick off next summer. The finalists in the competition will be voted on by the public starting November 14th.
