Traffic Stop Leads To Pot Bust In East Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A routine traffic stop led to a major pot bust on Tuesday night in East Nashville.

East Precinct Flex Officer Steve Smith was making a traffic stop on Chester Avenue when he smelled a strong marijuana odor the area.

He called for backup and officers and they pinpointed the smell to a particular house.

During the execution of a search warrant, police seized 245 marijuana plants, nearly three pounds of processed marijuana, grow lamps, timers, temperature gauges, and plant foods.

The home's residents, Jessica Tate, 26, and Joseph Janos, 44, were charged with manufacturing and possessing marijuana within 1,000 feet of Cora Howe Elementary School and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Tate and Janos were held in lieu of $125,000 bond each.
