KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jordan McRae scored 17 points to lead Tennessee to a 73-52 victory over Carson-Newman in exhibition on Thursday night.

Kenny Hall's putback pushed the Volunteers ahead 60-47 with 8:09 to go, breaking an 8:06 stretch without a Vols' field goal and triggering an 11-0 spurt to put the game away.

The Eagles went 9:01 without a bucket of their own.

Trae Golden contributed 14 points and five assists, and Jeronne Maymon had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Vols in Cuonzo Martin's first exhibition game as their coach.

Antoine Davis paced Carson-Newman with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from behind the arc.

A trey and a two dunks from McRae within a 49-second span put the Vols ahead 24-20 with 7:45 in the first half for their first lead of the game. The Vols didn't trail again after Josh Richardson's 3-pointer with 3:16 before halftime pushed Tennessee ahead 31-30.
