SCOTTSVILLE, KY- A church pastor from Scottsville, Kentucky has been charged with embezzling over $300,000 from his own congregation.
46-year-old Billy Owen Minix resigned from 'New Gospel Outreach' church back in August, when allegations of the embezzlement initially surfaced.
When Scottsville Police learned of the claims, they began investigating and on Tuesday they arrested Minix for theft by unlawful taking.
Detectives said Minix had been pocketing money from the church he founded and ran for more than a decade. Minix had organized collections and fundraisers for a building project for the church and after the building never materialized members began asking questions.
The interim pastor at 'New Gospel Outreach' said it's been a tough couple of weeks for the congregation, but they have forgiven Minix for what happened.
Minx was booked into the Allen County Jail and later released on a $25,000 bond.
