NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Michael German threw three touchdown passes as Tennessee State held on to beat Tennessee-Martin 35-30 on Saturday night.
German, who passed for 263 yards, threw touchdown passes of 4 and 77 yards to Travis James and 2 yards to Wesley Samuels as the Tigers (5-5,4-3 Ohio Valley Conference) overcame a 17-0 deficit with 28 unanswered points and never trailed again.
The Tigers outgained the Skyhawks (5-5, 4-3) in total yards 516-437, but had two turnovers. Tennessee-Martin had 22 first downs to 18 for the Tigers.
Derek Carr kept Tennessee-Martin in the game, completing 25 of 43 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns. Carr hit Kenny Jones for a 26-yard touchdown with 14:13 remaining to cut the deficit to 28-24. Then, after Ward's 2-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 35-24 with 4:43 to go, Carr threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Corey Jordan with 2:58 to play.
