PERRY COUNTY, Tenn.- After two days Perry County firefighters have finally gotten a massive forest fire under control.
Firefighters first responded to the fire around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The fire was said to be accidental, cause be two deer hunters. The fire began in the area of Marsh Creek Road in Perry County.
Members from both the Pope Volunteer Fire Department and the Tennessee Forestry Division responded to the scene and have been working to control the blaze.
Police said that the two hunters admitted that their campfire got away from them in the high winds, burning their campsite and their vehicle.
Officials said that an estimated 300 acres have been burned in the fires.
The fire was finally brought under control and contained around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
No homes have been threatened by the fire, nor have any injuries been reported.
