NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Tuesday that bookings for the new Music City Center represent more than 500,000 hotel room nights.

"Having booked a half a million room nights at this point in the schedule is extremely impressive," said Mayor Karl Dean. "It speaks greatly to the strength of Nashville as a convention destination, to the health of the hospitality industry and to the demand for a product like the Music City Center."

The Music City Center, scheduled to be competed in 2013, will be a large facility roughly three times the size of the existing Nashville Convention Center. The 1.2 million square foot facility will be located near the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Officials said the business booked for the Music City Center represents new business to Nashville.

"As a destination, Nashville is incredibly strong and our clients are responding to the sales efforts of the entire hospitality industry," said Butch Spyridon, president of the NCVB.

According to the NVCB 55 conventions are already booked for the facility.
