Amber Alert For Pets

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - For many families their pets are just as much a part of their family, so more and more are turning to Pet Amber Alert when the animals go missing.

In a Brentwood neighborhood there is something happening. Looking around and the signs tell the story.

Missing pets and their owners wanting them back home.

"You may pass it every day, twice a day if you are going in and out of your neighborhood, you actually have to stop, get out, find the description, find the telephone number to see what they are really looking for," Charlotte Callis.

Posting signs in your neighborhood is the traditional way of looking for a missing pet.

Joining the 21st century Callis turned to the internet to find her missing cat Aslan and saw an ad for PetAmberAlert.com

She posted an ad and someone called.

"Got the phone call and called us to say they had seen a cat that matched the description," said Callis.

Her son Brendan said, "I was surprised a few months later someone would call and say they found him."

Boone, an older man said responded, "We've been over there and looked, but we can't find him."

The Callis family hasn't had luck in the two months finding their cat-- but a spokesperson with PetAmberAlert.com says 70 percent of the pets on their site reported missing within 48 hours from the last time seen are found.

"When they are your pets, they're part of your family and you want to find them. A lot of time you will go to any expense to find them," said Callis.

Services will include a picture on the site and details about your pet. Other options include calls to animal shelters and hospitals even phone calls to homes and businesses in the area.

"I feel like there is a loss in our family. That some of the joy has gone away somewhere." said Callis' daughter Reilly

For the kids a lost pet is a lost best friend.

"I feel sad because he was like the youngest in the family, so I didn't feel like the youngest anymore," said Brendan.

As the word gets around more people will take to the internet to find and look for pets no longer at home.

"I was really glad that everyone could look for him and he could come home."

PetAmberAlert.com has been around since 2005.  The cost to use this service is anywhere from $50 to $100.
