Four Indicted In Smith County Shooting Death

SMITH COUNTY, Tenn. – Four men have been indicted in connection with the murder of a man in Smith County.

A Smith County Grand Jury indicted Jose Luis Silva, 20, and Luis Guerrero, 20, one count of first degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first degree murder. Two other men, Jose Barrios Sr., 40, and Jose Barrios Jr., 17, were also indicted one count of first degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first degree murder.

The father and son had been previously arrested in July, and Barrio Jr. had his case transferred to adult court in Agust.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was asked to investigate the shooting death of 31-year-old Serafin Medrano. Medrano's girlfriend had called the Smith County Sheriff's office on July 3 to report that he had been killed by her ex-husband, Barrios Sr., at her home on Guerrero Lane.

Investigators said all four participated and planned the murder.

Silva and Guerrero were booked into the Smith County Jail. Barrios Jr. is currently out on a $100,000 bond. Barrios Sr. remains jailed on a $150,000 bond.
