MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. - A road severely damaged by last year's flood has re-opened more than a year and a half later.
Tennessee Department of Transportation commissioner John Schroer was on hand to celebrate the re-opening of State Route 7 near Santa Fe in Maury County on Wednesday.
The stretch road was shut down because of floodwaters, and a massive landslide.
As a result, parts of the road collapsed down a steep embankment. TDOT opted to build a bridge over the damaged area, a decision they said would be more cost-effective than reconstructing the area.
Construction on the $9.5 million dollar project began early this year.
To date, the Federal Highway Administration has reimbursed TDOT for $39-million in flood-related repairs.
