NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The pristine libraries at Vanderbilt University have more than books and laptops these days.
There can be greasy pizzas and sloppy sandwiches.
The school is now permitting food, as well as drinks in covered containers, in all eight libraries except for areas with rare books and special materials.
That means there are no more excuses for a growling stomach among the shelves of books. No stern librarian will stop students from eating.
The school has even opened a cafe, cleverly called Food for Thought, in its Central Library.
University officials said libraries should be as welcoming and comfortable as possible.
Few other schools have such a policy.
