Service Held To Remember Soldiers Killed In 1985 Crash

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky- A memorial was held Monday to honor the loss of 248 members of the 101st Airborne Division who died 26 years ago in a plane crash in Gander, Newfoundland.

Soldiers at Fort Campbell honored their fallen brothers at  the annual memorial service held at the base Monday afternoon. The Gander crash happened just after take-off on December 12, 1985. 248 soldiers and eight crew members died in that early morning crash.

The soldiers were on their way home after a six-month mission to the Sinai Peninsula in the Middle East. The soldiers were from several different military units at Fort Campbell but were all attached to 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
