Radnor Lake State Park Expands By 37 Acres

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - One of the area's most popular parks is about to get bigger.

Radnor Lake State Park bought 37 acres adjacent to the park for $1-million.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation spent half a million dollars and volunteers with "Friends of Radnor Lake" raised the remaining amount from donations.

Supporters said the extra space will make the park even better.

"We want to enjoy today. We're going to soak this in for the next week or two, and January 1, we're going to get back to work. We've got more land to get, and it's us versus people wanting to develop it for other uses," said Park manager Steve Wards.

The park has long been considered one of Nashville's biggest nature treasures - right near the heart of town.

Nearly a million visitors head there each year take advantage of up close encounters with wildlife, nature, and more than six miles of hiking trails.
