CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - University of Tennessee President Joe DiPietro said the Vols are rebuilding in men's basketball and football but he has confidence in the people leading the programs and fans should be patient.
Asked about repercussions of Bruce Pearl's firing in March, DiPietro said the Knoxville chancellor manages athletics but "the key is in rebuilding the program from a low spot you need to one have patience."
After a losing season under Derek Dooley and the basketball team 4-6 under first-year coach Cuonzo Martin, DiPietro said, "We are not pleased."
With Dave Hart as the new athletic director, DiPietro told The Associated Press "we have the right people." He said that "with the coaches we've got and the AD we will get there. I'd ask the fans to be patient and supportive."
