Columbia Market Back In Business After Crash

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – The Columbia market that experienced the ultimate drive-thru was back in business Monday.

On December 12th Eric Whitaker plowed his pick-up truck into the Columbia Market on Hampshire Pike. Police said he was attempting to run down his ex-girlfriend when he crashed into the store. Store owner Surendra Patel was in the store at the time and was hit, but amazingly he was not seriously hurt.

The convenience store was open on Monday, but on a limited basis. Some items like the food stands have not yet been replaced. The store's owner was still recovering from injuries he received as the truck crashed through the front of his store earlier this month.

Whitaker, the driver of the truck, was charged with multiple crimes including attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated domestic assault.
