Music City Bowl Friday Night At LP Field

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Music City Bowl organizers say 55,208 people turned out on Friday night, to see Mississippi State take on Wake Forest at LP Field.

Festivities kicked off Thursday night with the Battle of the Bands. It pitted cheerleaders and marching bands from each school against each other, and brought big crowds to watch.

Both teams are newcomers to the Music City Bowl, and for many of their fans, this was their first visit to Nashville.

"I've been through here once, but never really stayed here before," said George Cook, a Wake Forest fan.  "We're having a great time, we're having a ball."

While the final score is certainly important, at an event like this, fans say it's also about the experience.

"It's been wonderful, I've been pleasantly surprised there are so many State fans here," said Brad Noel, a graduate of Mississippi State.

Gates at LP Field will opened at 3:30 p.m. Friday, for the 5:42 p.m. kickoff.

Organizers said having the game the day before New Year's Eve is an added attraction.

Mississippi State beat Wake Forest 23-17.
