NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/NewsChannel
5) - Construction has begun on a downtown Nashville roundabout -- a project
expected to take nearly a year to complete.
The traffic circle will
replace an intersection near the city's new convention center, which is also
under construction.
Crews will reduce 8th
Avenue South down to one lane in each direction at Lafayette Street. It's to
make room for the expansion of Korean Veterans Boulevard, and a roundabout at
8th Avenue. Construction will take eleven months to complete.
The Gateway/Korean
Veterans Boulevard roundabout will be at one end of a new four-lane divided
street that will connect to a bridge recently built over the Cumberland River.
The $10.7 million project will also include new utilities and drainage in that area.
