Unclaimed Cell Phones Cause Flight From Nashville To Divert

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- An American Eagle Flight from Nashville bound to LaGuardia Airport in New York was diverted Tuesday night after a man failed to claim two cell phones found in the bathroom.

Authorities said the plane left Nashville just after 6 p.m. and was diverted to Raleigh Durham International Airport shortly after. A passenger refused to claim two cell phones he left in the plane's bathroom.

When the pilot landed in Raleigh he requested that the passenger be removed from the flight, said RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Transportation Security Administration were called in to investigate and were questioning the passenger. The passenger's name had not been released and it was not clear if charges would be filed.

The plane left RDU at around 9:20 p.m and continued on to LaGuardia.
