SPRING HILL, Tenn.- The Spring Hill community is rallying around two families who lost loved ones in a car accident last week.

"Everyone is hurting," Heritage Elementary School PTA Co-President Brooke Kalb said. "It's still very raw. It's still very real."

A grieving community is trying to do something, even though so much is already out of their hands.

"Not everyone can give financially but everyone can at least contribute in some way," Kalb added.

Members of the Heritage Middle, Elementary and Independence High School Parent Teacher organizations gathered Friday night in Independence High School's library. Joined by others, they brainstormed ways to help the families whose lives changed last week at the busy intersection of Main Street and Buckner Road.

"It could have been anyone sitting at that light," said one parent.

That's where a car accident claimed the lives ten-year-old Cameron O'Reilly and 50-year-old Mark Ahlberg. Police said a medical emergency caused Ahlberg to lose control of his car and T-bone another where O'Reilly was a passenger.

"The losses of both these people it's like nightmare number one and nightmare number two," Heritage Middle School PTA President Brooke Pickard explained.

That's why the group hopes to help organize events next month, ranging from a concert to a silent auction, aimed at raising money for both families.

"These are our children and these are our families," Pickard added. "We feel a sense of responsibility to take care of them and take care of our community."

Along with cars, the goal is to raise cash to help the families with their immediate needs. The events are also meant to be a way to help the community begin the healing process and to celebrate both lives.
