NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The union that represents support staff, like school janitors, has filed a complaint against Metro Schools Director Jesse Register.
A local chapter of SEIU has accused Register of silencing employees, by removing their ability to dispute grievances. They also allege Register has discouraged employees from supporting their unions.
In a letter to staff, Register explained now that the state has removed teacher's collective bargaining rights the district will no longer enter formal relationships with unions.
While Register emphasized the unions will continue to be consulted in matters regarding pay and benefits, there will no longer be a formal agreement.
