GALLATIN, Tenn. – A standoff between police and a military veteran in Gallatin came to a peaceful end on Tuesday morning.

It started around midnight at an apartment complex on Airport Road. Police said 29-year-old David Fredrickson surrendered to police around 4:30 a.m.

The incident started as a domestic dispute when his girlfriend called police saying he had made threats against her during a fight. She was able to leave the home, but he refused to come out and threatened to kill himself.

Dozens of police officers and deputies responded. Police had received information that there was a shotgun in the home, and that he was a military veteran. Several of the neighbors were evacuated.

During the four hour standoff, Fredrickson called NewsChannel 5 and talked to one of our producers for about 20 minutes. He told her he had served in Iraq and Afghanistan and was not going to give up to police. NewsChannel 5 then relayed that information to police.

Fredrickson was taken out of the home in handcuffs, and taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.

There was no word on what kind of charges he would face.

Police said they have been to the address for at least two other domestic incidents.

Police were still investigating.
