SPRINGFIELD, Tenn.- A small plane has crashed near Springfield in Robertson County. Officials said the plane went down around 2:40 p.m. Thursday.
The small Cessna Skyhawk went down just before three o'clock at Highway 431 and Highway 257. The pilot of the plane said he was trying to land when he began to have engine trouble. He attempted an emergency landing in a nearby field, but one of the wheels got caught causing the plane to flip.
The pilot was not injured in the crash and no one on the ground was hurt. The pilot's identity has not yet been released, but reports indicated that the plane was registered to William J. Ivey of Nashville.
The pilot was flying in from Illinois. The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating.
