ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. - Several emergency crews responded to a crash involving a volunteer fire department fire truck Thursday evening.
Officials with the Greenbrier Fire Department confirmed that the fire truck crashed on Kelly Willis Road near Gideon Road around 5:30 p.m. It belonged to the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department.
There were three people in the truck at the time of the crash, including one juvenile. Two of the occupants, a 16-year-old and 19-year-old, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
White House Assistant Fire Chief Joe Williams said the fire truck met a car on Kelly Willis Road. In order to avoid the car, the fire truck went to the right side of the road and ended up in a ditch.
The 16-year old took part
in the Fire Explorer program, and the fire truck was being driven by his
stepfather.
According to the White
House Fire Department's homepage, the Fire Explorer program gives young people
ages 14 to 20 a chance to get an up-close look at the fire-fighting
profession.
Kelly Willis Road was closed for nearly two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
