KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee coach Derek Dooley has added veteran defensive line coach John Palermo to his staff.
The Volunteers announced Friday that Palermo would replace Lance Thompson, who is going to work for Alabama coach Nick Saban.
Palermo has coached for 37 years and spent the past two seasons at Middle Tennessee State. He's spent two seasons with the NFL's Washington Redskins and coached at Wisconsin for 15 years.
Dooley touted Palermo's track record coaching all-Americans, first-round NFL draft picks and NFL Pro Bowl players.
The Newburgh, N.Y., native played at Florida State. He also has coached at North Carolina State, Austin Peay, Memphis, Appalachian State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Miami and Tennessee Tech.
