NASHVILLE, Tenn. - There are plenty of stages in downtown Nashville, but few that inspire its own soft and soothing country song like the Ryman Auditorium where country music stars have made history for 120 years.
"This stage has hosted everyone from Mae West to Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash and all of the great country music artists," said Brenda Colliday.
Since 1951, all the greats stepped across the Ryman's creaky wooden floor stage and took the microphone making their place in music history.
"I can speak for all the Oak Ridge Boys, we almost get chill bumps when we walk on that stage when you think of all the great names that have gone on before us," said Richard Sterban. "Wow we are actually going to be playing for the final performance ever on the old stage. What a tremendous significance that is."
Richard Sterban from the Oak Ridge Boys will take this stage one last time on Friday before the 60 year old wood is ripped up and replaced
Next week the stage will be replaced with Brazilian teak that can handle the weight of new equipment, but something meaningful will be done with the wood from the old stage. However, Ryman employees aren't saying what yet.
