Woman Indicted For Failed Assassination Of Husband

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A woman has been accused of trying to kill her estranged husband in what Metro Police are calling a "failed assassination."

Katherine Holmes, 27, of Smyrna, turned herself in after a grand jury indicted her for attempted first-degree murder.

Her estranged husband, Joel Holmes, survived a gunshot wound to the head on August 24, 2011. He had just pulled up to Summit Apartments on Mountainhigh Drive to meet Katherine and exchange the couple's two children.

Police said Barry Haislip walked up and shot him, point blank in the head.  Investigators said he and Katherine Holmes planned the attack. Haislip was charged the day after the shooting.

Katherine and the couple's two children were in the parking lot at the time.

Holmes was held in jail on a $200,000 bond.
