NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police arrested three people after approximately 754 pounds of marijuana was brought to Nashville from Arizona.
Police took 27-year-old Charles Ivey into custody around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said stored the
marijuana in various Nashville stash houses. A search of Ivey's condominium
in the Encore building downtown resulted in the seizure of paperwork evidence, but no marijuana. Police said they do not believe he distributed the marijuana from the Encore building.
The 20th Judicial Drug Task Force got word that a shipment of marijuana destined for Ivey was in the Middle Tennessee area. Undercover officers spotted the travel trailer suspected to be carrying the marijuana on I-65. In the process, it passed by several schools.
Police said he was not ready to get the shipment, and the two people who were transporting the drugs went to a campground in Humphreys County until they could make the
delivery.
The travel trailer and truck were stopped near Linden, and Teresa Kay Joplin, 51, and Spencer Del Vermuele, 48, both
of Arizona, were taken into custody with the assistance of the Perry County Sheriff's Office and
the 21st Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Joplin and Vermuele were charged with felony marijuana charges.
Ivey was charged with conspiracy to commit felony drug offense, and was held on a $500,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police also seized five vehicles, the travel trailer and more than $20,000
cash.
