CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Clarksville City Councilman Nick Steward made an announcement Wednesday about his political future in Tennessee.
"After much thought and prayer I have decided to run in House district 74 as a republican," said Steward.
29-year-old Steward is former Fort Campbell soldier, who served in Afghanistan and lives in Clarksville.
He'll be running against incumbent John Tidwell for District 74, which represents the area west of Montgomery County.
Steward says his number one priority if elected will be improving transportation and infrastructure in the district. He also said his time serving overseas prepared him for a run in politics.
"My time spent overseas helped prepare me to manage crises and deal very well in a tense environment where you have to maintain a level head," Steward said.
His opponent has been in office for 16-years.
