MONTEREY, Tenn. - Police in Monterey found a man twice convicted of statutory rape living just feet from a school there.
Stephen Pyles has been charged with violating residential restrictions of the state's sex offender laws. Investigators said Pyles had been living on Farley Avenue within 1,000 feet of Burks Elementary School.
Convicted sex offenders are banned from living that close to any school, daycare, public park, or playground.
Pyles was convicted of statutory rape in 1995 and at the time, already had a prior conviction for the same charge.
