Stray Dog At Shelter Gets Audition For 'Annie'

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) -- The curtains almost closed on a sandy-colored stray dog in Maury County as she was facing euthanasia, but now her encore performance in an audition could land her a new life on Broadway.

Porky, a 1-year-old female terrier mix, was waiting to be adopted from the Maury County Animal Shelter when she was scheduled to be euthanized. Volunteers at the Pet Pals of Maury County sent out one last plea to other rescue agencies for a home for Porky.

Out of the blue, renowned animal trainer William Berloni said he wanted Porky to audition for the 35th anniversary Broadway production of "Annie." Berloni said that after seeing Porky in Columbia, he is bringing her to his farm in Connecticut to meet with the show's director
