PULASKI, Tenn. – The man who pleaded guilty to killing a Giles County woman and her two sons has filed a petition asking a judge to overturn the case and give him a new trial.
William Angel was accused of killing Desere Thornton and her two sons, 16-year-old Jerrod and 9-year-old Anthony, in Giles County on October 23, 2009.
In the filing on Thursday, Angel claimed he has an intelligence limitation that allowed him to incriminate himself in the case. He also wants a new lawyer.
Last year, Angel and his co-defendant Matthew Wood were sentenced to three life sentences, with no chance of parole for the deaths.
